Lantana is originally from a small town in New Jersey in an agricultural area. She had an early love for science and animals and went on to receive her B.S. in Animal Science at Tuskegee University. She performed research as an undergraduate student and developed a strong interest in cell biology and reproduction. In 2020, she completed her M.S. in Animal Science at the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign where she studied the molecular and genetic regulation of sperm storage in the female reproductive tract.
In her PhD research in the Patel Lab, Lantana is exploring the role of epigenetics in mtDNA regulation. This project allows Lantana to pursue her interests in molecular biology and bioinformatics, and leverage long-read sequencing techniques to investigate mtDNA.
Outside of the lab, Lantana can be found in the pottery studio, reading, or trying out a new restaurant in Nashville.
